Are you sensing a call to deepen your faith and explore a meaningful path in ministry? The Diocese of New Westminster's Learning Centre for Mission and Formation is proud to announce a new partnership with the Vancouver School of Theology (VST) to offer Certificates in Theological Studies. This program provides a flexible yet comprehensive approach to theological education, designed to equip learners for vital ministry within their communities.

Key Features:
Three Distinct Paths

Choose from three specialized tracks:

  • Homiletics
  • Children, Youth, and Families Ministries
  • Pastoral and Spiritual Care

Each path offers a common grounding and focused coursework tailored to your ministry areas.

  • Accessible Learning: With a variety of course formats including regular term courses, intensives, summer school, Learning Centre courses, and online options, the program accommodates diverse schedules and learning preferences. Plus, with support available for both on-site and distance learners, accessibility is a top priority.
  • Streamlined Requirements: Unlike degree programs, our certificate program features simplified requirements, making it easier for learners to engage deeply with course material and without the burden of extensive prerequisites.
  • Financial Support: We believe that financial barriers should never hinder a desire for theological education. That's why a Continuing Education Bursary of up to 25% off tuition costs is available per credit hour (to a max. of $100.00), making the program more affordable for all learners.
Benefits to Learners:
  • Comprehensive Education: Gain a solid foundation in Christian thought and ministry practices, supported by highly qualified faculty and robust resources provided by VST.
  • Local Partnership: Partnering with a local institution supported by the diocese ensures a consistent curriculum experience for both lay and ordained leaders, fostering shared commitments and dialogue within the community.
  • Pathway to Leadership: Prepare for licensed lay ministries such as pastoral visiting, preaching, and ministry with families, equipping yourself to play a vital role in parish development and leadership.
  • Integration of Theory and Practice: By bridging academic study with practical ministry training, the program emphasizes the idea that Christian discipleship involves the whole self – heart, mind, and action -- and is a lifelong journey of learning and growth in community.
